Effects of Lack of Sex in Marriage



According to a study done with the American population, approximately 20% of married people have not had sex in the last month, 12% in the last three months and 6% have not had sex for more than a year. Regular sexual activity in marriage is related to relationship satisfaction for both men and women.
      


1. Health issues
There is a boost in the immune system whenever you have sex with your spouse.  A study by the Wilkes-Barre University found that people who had sex at least one to two times a week had a 30% increase in immunoglobulin A. These are antibodies which play a major role in the defense against diseases. Though the is no research out there to prove if truly sex improves the quality of sleep but one fact that is assured is that sex can get you to sleep. Therefore if the sex life suffers, you can’t enjoy the boosting effect which makes the immune system suffers. Therefore persons who rarely have sex or no sex are more frequently ill.

2.  Vagina issues
Long period or irregular sexual intercourse can cause the vagina to close or become tight up. Vagina tightness can be voluntary or involuntary and is considered to be as a result of a psychological issue. This can lead to pain and discomfort or inability to have sex. It not because of lack of penetration but it could be a loss of interest due to the stress and frustration she is undergoing as a result of the difficulties in the relationship. Though age and some activities have some amount of effect on the organ, if a woman is not sexually aroused and emotionally condition for the moment it may seem like she is tight up or closed up.
 Not having sex can lead to thinning and drying of the vagina tissues for women entering menopause.  The vagina can also have a hard time getting lubricated for older women and can lead to pain when trying to have sex.

3. Increasing anxiety      
During the act of sex, the brain releases chemicals, such as endorphins and oxytocin which makes a person feel good or more at ease. Scottish researchers found that people who had frequent sex in everyday life were able to cope with stressful situations much better than those who do not have sex regular. Lack of sex in your marriage can lead to anxiety, due to the fact that the hormones that are responsible for self-confidence and happiness are not present


4.Rising risk for prostate cancer
Regular sex can help protect men against prostate cancer, a medical study has found. This shows that for men sex is a kind of health not merely a pleasure for.  As a study showed, sex in men reduces the risk of prostate cancer by a whopping 20%. It showed that most sexually-active males had less chance of contracting the potentially fatal disease. This is due to the function of ejaculation, in which potentially harmful substances such as cancer-causing agents, infection, and stagnant materials that could lead to inflammation are removed from the prostate.  




5. Erectile Dysfunction
  In men, lack of sex can lead to erectile dysfunctions. 
A study suggests that men who experience difficulty getting or maintaining an erection have sex less often than men with no sexual difficulties.  According to a study also published in the American Journal of Medicine, the probability increases by 50% when the penis is not regularly used. For the penis to function well it needs to be used regularly to avoid erectile dysfunction due to the decrease in sexual activity.


6. No sex leads to depression
  Depression is not only due to
 sadness, anger, loneliness, fear, and unhappiness. But lack of sex can also bring about depression especially women feel much more depressed. The less sex they have the more depressed they become. Though every person feels bad or depressed at a certain point but this is an exceptional case for some women or men. This can be as a result of everyday stress or the job. Women also felt just as depressed when the partner used a condom. Melatonin, serotonin and oxytocin chemical found in the semen and can be mood-enhancing for women. This means that semen has some boosting effect on female sexual pleasure and happiness. Sex is a beautiful thing to enhance mood and to ward off depression for the married.



7. Relationship problems
The absence of touch and sexual intimacy creates both physical and emotional distance. Physical love is as essential to a happy marital relationship as emotional love. Melatonin, serotonin and oxytocin which influences the whole relationship and romantic happiness. Oxytocin is a binding hormone that strengthens the connection between partners. Some relationship problem is as a result of the lack of happiness hormones produced by sex. Lack of sex in a marriage can breed confidence and trust issues, fear and jealousy might set in as well due to the lack of sexual intimacy.


8.Sex drive changes
Lack of sexual intimacy can lead to changes in sexual desire. Although aging also plays a critical role lack of sex in a relationship could be due to unresolved conflict which most at times it is, distance, work stress or childbirth. Not having sex does not only affects your body but also your health, Couple who do not engage in regular sex active may have an increase in libido or low libido. This means that for some not having sex could lead to a stronger desire and for others the desire may become low or less.  In men, low libido is a common emotional side effect of erectile dysfunction and this may affect his confidence negatively.
