WhatsApp is one of the favorite messaging services, among other
things, because it is very easy to use. However, sometimes it generates its
doubts, mainly for the users who just begin to use it. Here, a detail of some
of the most common problems and how to solve them.
1. My contact has my old
phone number
This may happen if you changed your phone number and the new one
was not confirmed. When inserting the new SIM card the application asks if you
want to keep the old number or move to the current one. In case the user has
not chosen the desired option, it is possible to make the change from the
Configuration menu. Once there, enter the Account and then the Change number.
2. Why can’t I connect to WhatsApp?
This can be due to a connection problem or an error in the
configuration of the equipment. First,
you can try rebooting the phone. Then make sure you have downloaded the latest
version of WhatsApp. To do this, simply go to Google Play or the Apple Store
and search for WhatsApp. If it says Update, then you have to press there to
download the latest version.
Make sure that the data connection is active. For that, in the
case of Android you have to enter Settings / Wireless / More / Mobile Networks.
And on the iPhone, you must press on
Settings / Cellular data.
If you are using Wi-Fi networks check to see if it has internet
connectivity and make sure that the phone is not set to Airplane mode.
The service may not work on an outdated operating system, so make
sure you have the latest iOS or Android update for the phone in question.
If your smartphone connects to Wi-Fi but does not work with mobile
data, then you must call your service provider to help you or some you know
that can help you with the problem.
3. Why can’t I see the information of some of my contacts?
If you cannot see the profile photo, the last time or the status
of the person, it is possible that the user in question has configured their
privacy so that no one can see this information.
It could also be because of
Privacy Settings limited access to that data only for your contacts, so if you
are not on that user's phonebook, you will not be able to see any of the above
data.
Finally, it could be a connectivity problem or you been blocked by that
user.
4. I cannot recover deleted chats
In order to do this, you have
to access the backups. In case this option is not activated, then it must be
enabled in order to have access to the conversation history. For Android, you
can save a copy to your phone or Google Drive.
Within Settings, you have to
enter Chats and calls and then press where it says Backup. Once this is done
you can choose to make a copy to the SD
card or in Google Drive.
For the option that you are going to use the Drive you have to
enter in Settings / Account and there add an email address. Then choose Save to
Drive and select how often you want to back up.
In the case of the iPhone, you have to enter in Settings, then to
Chat and once there press Copy of chats. This will make a backup that will be
stored in the cloud (iCloud) Apple.
5. I cannot restore the backup
When changing your number or reinstalling the app, the application
will ask if you want to restore the conversations and files from the created
backup. The restore must be chosen, but
if this did not work, any of the following problems are likely to occur:
* There was no backup in Drive or phone.
* The card or file has a corrupted history.
* You are using a wrong Google account.
* The same number with which the backup was created is not being used.
6. How do I know if someone blocked me from WhatsApp?
While one cannot know this conclusively, there are some
indications that may indicate a blockage:
Do not see the time of last connection, nor the profile photo or
that only a single check mark next to the messages that
are sent. This means that the messages were sent but were not received.
Finally, not being able to make calls to the person could also indicate a
blockage. The message "phone not connected" appears in WhatsApp web.
For the web version to work correctly, both the phone and the computer being
used must be connected. It is essential, then, to check the connection. Another
possibility is that there has been an interruption in the connection, that the
smartphone is out of battery or that the power saving mode has been activated on the phone.
This function causes the connections to be disconnected when the
screen is turned off for a few minutes.
7. I do not see all my contacts
The app takes the contacts directly from the phone and the
accounts linked to it. So, if you do not see some people. It may be that the
phone number is wrongly stored. In this sense, it is important to remember to add the area code and name to the
number when it is being stored in the contact.
Another option is that they have been blocked involuntarily, so it will
have to be checked in settings that are not in the contact list (Settings /
Account / Privacy). The simplest (and likely) explanation is that the other
person does not have WhatsApp installed or that one has been blocked.
8. How to stop seeing the Status of some contacts?
In case you do not want to see the Status of some contacts
just go to the Status tab and go to the contact you want to block. In the case
of Android simply keep the name pressed and in the case of iOS you have to
locate the name and move the finger to the left to select the option Mute.
10. You cannot install the application
The first thing to do is to check if you have enough space on your
device for download.
To make some space in memory, you can save your photos and videos
in the cloud or consider if it is worth to delete some application that you do
not use so much.
Another option to check is if the
is no error in Google Play (if it is an Android). In that case, you must delete
your account, restart the phone and try again.
Last but not least, do not forget to check that your internet
connection is optimal and that your phone is compatible with the application.
11. The voice notes you are trying to send only last 10 seconds
Has it ever occurred to you to try to send a voice message in
WhatsApp and to have it cut all the time? If so, in the end, you end up sending several messages with voice notes that cannot
last more than 10 seconds.
The problem is common among users of iPhone 6 or earlier.
To fix it, you should try to move your finger slightly while
recording the voice note. This will cause your screen to detect movement. If it
does not work, delete the application and reinstall it.
12. You cannot send or receive messages
In this case, it is most likely an error in your connection or
WhatsApp servers.
If the "fault" is from WhatsApp, you can check it under
the "Service Status" option (under "Settings"). In that
case, you just have to wait.
13. Do not receive notifications until you open WhatsApp
If the internet connection
is slow there may be some problems. Other times, the failure is from the
WhatsApp servers.
Another quite common error among users is not receiving the
notifications until they open the application. What to do in that case? First,
make sure that the internet connection works properly.
Also, check the WhatsApp settings that you do not have that option
muted or that the power saving mod is not activated (they are usually disconnected
by default when the battery is low on the phone).
You should also look under the "Application Data" of the
application settings, that the "Restrict Background Data" option is
disabled. Otherwise, you will not receive notifications.
14. You cannot download or send media files
If the problem is that you cannot download photos, videos or voice
notes, or send them to your contacts, it is possible that the connection to the
internet is slow or a failure on the SD card, which allows the sending of that
type of files.
Your card may no longer have space, is in "Read Only"
mode or has been hacked. It is also important that you check that the time and
date are correct.
15. Messages arrive late
Task Managers can cause connection failures.
"Task killers can temporarily turn off WhatsApp. This causes
WhatsApp to connect and disconnect from the servers constantly, which depletes
the battery of your phone and unnecessarily consumes your mobile data,
"says WhatsApp on its website." If the task killer closes the
application, there is no way their server can know.
This may delay the receipt of the messages. "When the
application does not close properly on the phone, it may generate this failure,
as the servers in the application do not detect any disconnection. It is best to
close the application manually
16. You cannot see videos in WhatsApp. If you cannot watch videos
there may be a problem with the media player, says the company in it blog. In
that case, it is best that you download a different one.
17. Error: "Phone date is incorrect"
When you make changes to your
phone and you restart the device. This error appears when the date of your
mobile phone does not match WhatsApp's registered date. This can happen because
the application has detected that you date is incorrect.
To solve this, enable "Automatic date and time" in
"Settings". For the changes to take effect, you must clear the cache
and restart the device. You can set you time and date manually too.
18. The number of messages that the icon indicates is incorrect
Another possible failure is that the WhatsApp icon shows you an incorrect
number of messages. The solution is as follows: when a contact sends you a
message, it clears the desktop shortcut and creates a new one.If it does not work, guess what to do?
Delete the application and reinstall it.
