CONNECTING A KEYBOARD TO A MIXER

Working with sound can be fascinating sometimes and frustrating when you seem not to get something right. Sound setup defer from one place to another, like doing sound in church is very different from doing sound in a club.

Speaker placement
Make sure your speakers a well-connected and placed in front of your audience this should be at least five meters away from your audience. If you are using two speakers place one at the right side of the audience and the other at the left side of the audience. In the case where you are having only one speaker, place it at a point where the waves can travel to the hearing of your audience

Positioning the keyboard

You may place the keyboard on it stand or what you are going to use as a stand. Always make sure your keyboard is free from  dust by placing it in a dust free area or  in its bag. Dust can cause severe damage to the instrument. If using adjustable stand adjust to height you think is best for you or the one who is going to play. Position your keyboard in a well-spaced area to avoid difficulty in playing .If you are playing as a band make sure your keyboard is placed at a point where communication can be easier. In the case of singing and playing at the same time make sure you are not facing the speaker directly because this may cause feedback.

Connecting the cables to the keyboard

The keyboard has a number of input and output sections. These sections are located on the real of the key board  “line out”, for standard keyboards. But for advanced keyboards its  mono/ L (left) and R (Right)

With your TS jack plugs, connect one end of the jack head to the female jack (line out for standard keyboard). For keyboards with two outputs (mono/left, right). You make preference to use one of the channels depending on sound system and setting, or you connect in two way channels where you connect both left and right. In this connection you would need two different cables. Cables to be used for your setup should be neat and well fixed and should be long enough.

If your cables are in bad shape you may have distorted sound or there would be no sound coming out from your keyboard. Make sure cables are not weak or faulty.

Connect your keyboard to the mixer using the line in section.

Powering up your system, locate the power side of your keyboard and connect it properly.
Before powering up the system make sure you have checked the following

You power cables are well fitted or fixed

Check to see if you need an AC power or a DC power. If a AC power check volts rating if it either 120V or 220V.

Check to see if you system should run on a stabilizer

Check to see if your ac adapters being used are of the right voltage and tap up every naked wire if any.

NOTE .Any mistake could cause the system to respond in a negative manner.
Setting levels. Open to half of the keyboard’s volume and do adjustments on your board.
